NumFOCUS has been fortunate to welcome many new companies to our Corporate Sponsorship program over the course of 2021. Partnerships with enterprise users of our open source tools represent a huge part of our support network, so we are grateful for the decision by these corporate stakeholders to invest in NumFOCUS and our Projects.

Blackstone joined NumFOCUS earlier this summer as a Gold-level corporate sponsor. Blackstone is the world’s largest alternative asset manager whose portfolio includes a wide range of funds and investment vehicles. “Blackstone’s engineering teams work closely with Anaconda, another NumFOCUS corporate sponsor, and have made major code contributions to projects including Bokeh, Jupyter, and Panel” said Thomas Pologruto, Blackstone’s Chief Data Architect. “We look forward to working with NumFOCUS on expanding our areas of focus.”

Also joining NumFOCUS as corporate sponsors in 2021 are Comcast and Monochrome (formerly M. Moye Consulting).

GDAL Joins NumFOCUS with Multiple Corporate Sponsors

GDAL, also new to NumFOCUS in 2021 as a Sponsored Project, brought with them several relationships with enterprise users of their widely-deployed geospatial data library. Companies sponsoring GDAL through NumFOCUS this year include:

Aerometrex, AWS, Esri, FrontierSI, Google, Kaplan Open Source, Koordinates, Mapgears, Maxar, Microsoft, Planet, Safe Software, Space Intelligence, Sparkgeo, & Umbra.

These sponsors will provide much-needed resources to GDAL to help cover project development costs, including performance and efficiency improvements, code quality and security reviews, and infrastructure maintenance and modernization. NumFOCUS is proud to facilitate this type of funding relationship between a preeminent open source geospatial software project and their enterprise stakeholders.
