NumFOCUS Executive Director Search Update: Job listing is Open [Source]
In our last post, we announced the start of the executive director search, that we were looking for a search firm, and asked what you’d like to ask an executive director candidate. Thank you to everyone who submitted a question. This form is still open here. In this post, we’d like to provide an update about where we are and what is next.
We’re happy to announce that we’ll be working with Perrett Laver (PL). PL has made hires at the executive director level in the open source non-profit space. They have a solid understanding of the work culture in and around NumFOCUS, and they have a demonstrated history of creating a diverse candidate pool with an inclusive hiring process. NumFOCUS is working with PL to distribute the job description to a wide audience of potential candidates.
We have written a lot about the process of finding our next executive director, however, we have not yet shared specifics around what we’re looking for in a candidate. Given the scope of the ED role, the size and diversity of the community, and the typical and emerging challenges associated with running a non-profit, we’re looking for candidates that have both relevant skills as well as real-world experience. In terms of skills, we’re looking for someone who is deeply familiar with the technical space that NumFOCUS serves, understands open source software and its societal impact, and has a strategic business perspective. As the face of the organization, the ideal candidate knows how to create equitable and inclusive environments for a diversity of stakeholders. We’re looking for someone who has led organizations, establishing accountability systems and operations. Additionally, we’re looking for folks with experience with marketing and fundraising.
We want to hear from you. With support from PL, we are actively searching for candidates right now. If you are interested in applying for the role, you can apply directly through this link. Alternatively, if you think you know a good candidate for this role (or think you are one yourself!), please fill out this form and we will share their information with PL
