It is with great excitement that we announce the newest members of the NumFOCUS Board of Directors. Welcome, Rosie Pongracz and Logan Kilpatrick.
Thank you to all who participated in our call for nominations. Your continued support and involvement in NumFOCUS’s efforts to serve our community are greatly appreciated. In addition to Rosie and Logan, a third new board member will soon be announced.
Please join us in welcoming:
Rosie Pongracz joins the board after three years as a member of the NumFOCUS Advisory Council representing IBM. She is an Engineer by training, builder by practice, and has expertise in full-stack technical marketing and sales. She obtained her degree from Carnegie Mellon in Electrical/Biomedical Engineering. Her current focus within the technology realm is all things data and AI, platform, and open source. She has launched over 50 products and companies and operated as a leader at both early-stage companies and large corporations. She is currently at IBM building data and AI MVPs for customers to transform their businesses.
“NumFOCUS is the leading scientific community for open computing. I’m honored to be able to bring my years of experience in open source, platforms, and technical marketing to the organization and its projects. Open source is so important to the scientific community, as is activating crucial diversity and inclusivity. NumFOCUS’s mission is to support open source for scientific discovery, for our planet. I’m thrilled to be able to contribute to the growth of this essential organization,” said Rosie.
Prior to his election to the board, Logan Kilpatrick has been serving as a member of the NumFOCUS Small Development Grants and Affiliated Projects Selection Committee. He is also currently serving as the Community Manager for the Julia Language, a NumFOCUS fiscally sponsored project. Logan received his bachelor’s degree from Harvard University with a focus on Computer Science and is now a dual graduate student at Northwestern University’s School of Law and Harvard University.
“Being able to experience NumFOCUS’s impact on the open source community through my role as the Julia Community Manager made me want to get more involved. There are so many exciting things happening across the wide array of NumFOCUS’s projects, I am grateful to have this opportunity and be able to see more as well as give back. I would also like to thank Jane Herriman for her contributions and exceptional leadership in the Julia community and work on the NumFOCUS board, without which, the community would not be where it is today,” said Logan.
Many thanks!
As the NumFOCUS board evolves with the welcoming of new members we also want to express our immense gratitude for the contributions of the board members that are stepping down. Their work has guided NumFOCUS through a period of rapid growth including the launch and expansion of new programs as well as the acceptance of over 40 sponsored projects during their combined tenure. The impact of their service and dedication provides a strong foundation for the success of future boards and NumFOCUS.
