Providing Support for Development and Performance of Python-Related Technologies

We are proud to announce that Bodo has made a significant contribution to NumFOCUS toward the development of the pandas project, as well as an additional contribution to the NumFOCUS General Fund.

Bodo has joined NumFOCUS as a Principal Level Sponsor and will hold a seat on our Advisory Council. Their generous support will help fund needed project services, including grant management, legal counseling, and contributor diversification.

Bodo’s Commitment and Rationale:

Bodo’s mission is to democratize access to high-performance computing, to build technology that makes working with petabyte-scale datasets as fast and straightforward as running pandas with a laptop. Bodo firmly believes that Python/pandas should be a “first-class” production solution in the industry and not just for running smaller jobs. Bodo’s JIT compiler brings C++/MPI levels of speed and scalability to make it happen.

Bodo technology is rooted in open source and they believe in true community-driven open source innovation. They have been active Numba contributors for several years, also contributing to and/or supporting other projects like IPyParallel.

Bodo will work closely and collaboratively with the pandas maintainers to improve its APIs for data engineering workloads and enhance the pandas library as the standard for data processings. Their partnership will also support new feature implementations and ongoing project development.

Ehsan Totoni, Bodo’s CTO and Co-Founder:

“We believe pandas should be the gold standard for data processing workloads like ETL and data prep. We will continue to enhance Pandas APIs collaboratively — and not try to replace them — for both “small” and “big” datasets. Our goal is to make sure Pandas APIs are consistent and robust to eliminate surprises for users as well as JIT compilers. We have a great relationship with the project maintainers and plan to be an engaged community participant.”

Behzad Nasre, Bodo’s CEO and co-founder:

We will support NumFOCUS and sponsor projects with the true intention of open innovation, free from steering/dominating projects for commercial gain.”

In joining NumFOCUS as a Corporate Sponsor, Bodo’s contribution will enable the crucial sustainability services and strategic support that we provide on a daily basis to our Sponsored Projects and ongoing promotional and grant opportunities for our Affiliated Projects.
